The Townsville Popular Variety Amateur Minstrels entertained in and around Townsville. Comprised of local identities including the musical Foley family, the Minstrels began as a fund-raising arm of the Oddfellows in 1889 and remained active for over 40 years.

With thanks to Graham Husband who gave PAHST this information:
"I am writing with regard to my grandfather Richard Josiah Husband who settled in Townsville in the 1880 – 1890’s. He was born at Cape Province, South Africa and worked his way on a sailing ship arriving with his brother Jack in Melbourne about 1878, and in Townsville a few years later. In partnership with his brother Jack they operated a Cordial factory in Townsville. When he and his brother dissolved their partnership he joined the Telegraph Department. His first wife Patience Therese (nee Wilson) Husband died in 1888 and his second wife Olga Mathilde (nee Malvorsen) Husband died in 1893 and are interred in Townsville Cemetery. He married my Grandmother Margaret (nee Power) Husband in Rockhampton in 1899. He was a founding member to the T.P.V.A Minstrels together with Bert Brown and George Waite. He was a member of the Townsville Mounted Infantry and was closely associated with Captain Fred Johnson."
